One-bedroom apartment in Kings Cross

One-Bedroom Apartment in King's Cross
Our client, a young professional working in the marketing industry, approached us to reimagine her one-bedroom apartment in King’s Cross. While the space was functionally sound, it lacked warmth, elegance, and a sense of individuality. She envisioned a refined, modern-contemporary home with a calm, neutral palette—one that felt luxurious but understated. Key goals included upgrading the bland white kitchen and cement-grey bathroom, and creating a tranquil, hotel-like bedroom that would serve as a personal retreat.

Challenge
The existing apartment featured basic developer-grade finishes that felt cold and impersonal. The white kitchen cabinetry lacked depth and visual interest, while the grey bathroom tiles gave the space a stark, utilitarian feel. Storage was limited, and the overall ambiance didn’t align with the client’s refined taste. The challenge was to elevate the apartment with tailored design, improved functionality, and a consistent sense of calm luxury throughout, all within a compact footprint.

Solution
Our design concept focused on simplicity, warmth, and material richness within a neutral, elegant scheme.

Kitchen
We replaced the plain white kitchen fronts with warm wood veneer cabinetry, introducing texture and a natural tone to the space. Clean lines and a handleless profile enhanced the contemporary aesthetic, while integrated appliances maintained a seamless look. A light-toned composite stone worktop and matching splashback offered subtle contrast and durability, contributing to the kitchen’s understated elegance without the need for decorative hardware or embellishment.

Bathroom
The bathroom was redesigned to evoke a spa-like feel. We used large-format marble-effect porcelain tiles on the walls, paired with pale floor tiles to create visual contrast and softness. A bespoke vanity unit, crafted from warm-toned wood, was introduced to add character, warmth, and storage. Clean-lined brass fixtures brought a subtle touch of luxury, enhancing the space without overpowering its tranquil mood.

Bedroom – A Personal Sanctuary
The bedroom held deep emotional value for the client—a space where she could fully relax after a long day. To achieve a hotel-like ambiance, we selected a bed upholstered in soft beige fabric as the focal point, offering both comfort and elegance. The walls were painted in a warm beige tone and detailed with classic mouldings to add softness and architectural texture.
We designed a bespoke dressing table with an integrated chest of drawers and a two-tone wood wardrobe, elegantly framed in warm brass. These pieces, custom-made by our trusted craftspeople, brought refined functionality to the room while reflecting the client’s personal style. The overall effect is intimate, restful, and beautifully tailored.

Outcome
The completed apartment now feels like a calm and luxurious retreat in the heart of the city. Each space has been thoughtfully transformed to reflect the client’s lifestyle and aesthetic—warm, refined, and serene. The natural textures, clean lines, and bespoke details bring cohesion and character, while the bedroom, in particular, serves as a peaceful haven for rest and renewal. The result is a home that not only looks elegant but feels deeply personal and complete.
