Designing a Townhouse for a Family of FourProject Type: Full Interior Furnishing & Styling
Client: Family of Four
Location: Newly Built Townhouse in Muswell Hill
Design Style: Warm Contemporary with Eclectic and Classic Elements
Scope: Furnishing, Color Palette, Room Styling, wall and window treatment
BackgroundThis newly built townhouse started as a completely unfurnished, all-white interior. Although architecturally well-planned, the space felt cold, impersonal, and empty. The family—two adults and two children—wanted to turn it into a warm and welcoming home that reflected their lifestyle and personality.
“We want it to feel like our home—not a showhouse.”Design Challenges: Entire house was empty and visually uninviting
- No designated living room—dining area had to serve multiple functions
- Each room needed a unique identity while remaining harmonious
- Create warmth, texture, and personality within a new build
- Design playful yet restful bedrooms for the children
Dining Area – The Heart of the HomeWith no separate living space, the dining area needed to do more than serve meals—it had to be a multifunctional, welcoming gathering spot for the whole family.
Design Highlights:- Warm-toned walls replaced the original blank white surfaces to create depth and coziness
- A Stark Carpets rug with subtle blues brought softness and visual interest
- A bespoke, lounge-style sofa was integrated into the area, with blue cushions tying into the rug for cohesion
- Carefully selected art and accessories added a layer of personality and ease
The space now feels relaxed and personal, with comfort and functionality at its core.
Master Bedroom – Light, Warm, and ElegantThe master bedroom was approached with a softer, more uplifting feel—creating a space that was restful yet expressive.
Key Features:- A light warm palette set the tone for a serene and airy atmosphere
- A patterned wallpaper feature wall added modern eclecticism and served as a bold, yet tasteful statement
- A mix of modern furnishings and subtle classic elements created timeless comfort
- The overall effect is bright, calm, and elegantly layered—an inviting private retreat
Children’s Bedrooms – Creative, Playful, and RelaxingThe two children's rooms were designed to feel imaginative and fun, yet also soothing and uncluttered.
Design Highlights:
- Custom-selected wallpapers gave each room character and visual warmth
- Color palettes were soft and cheerful, designed to stimulate creativity without overwhelming
- Furnishings were chosen for both practicality and future adaptability
- Decorative elements introduced playfulness while preserving a calm, cozy atmosphere
These rooms are spaces for both rest and imagination, tailored to the children’s evolving needs.
Outcome:The transformation turned a cold, characterless shell into a warm, inviting family home. Each room now feels purpose-driven, expressive, and comfortable—reflecting both the practical needs and personal tastes of the family.
With thoughtful design choices, layered textures, and a balance of sophistication and playfulness, this townhouse became exactly what the family hoped for: a home that feels authentic, lived-in, and truly theirs.
